13 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird
Wallace Stevens

I
Among twenty snowy mountains,
The only moving thing
Was the eye of the blackbird.

II
I was of three minds,
Like a tree
In which there are three blackbirds.

III
The blackbird whirled in the autumn winds.
It was a small part of the pantomime.

IV
A man and a woman
Are one.
A man and a woman and a blackbird
Are one.

V
I do not know which to prefer,
The beauty of inflections
Or the beauty of innuendoes,
The blackbird whistling
Or just after.

VI
Icicles filled the long window
With barbaric glass.
The shadow of the blackbird
Crossed it, to and fro.
The mood
Traced in the shadow
An indecipherable cause.

VII
O thin men of Haddam,
Why do you imagine golden birds?
Do you not see how the blackbird
Walks around the feet
Of the women about you?

VIII
I know noble accents
And lucid, inescapable rhythms;
But I know, too,
That the blackbird is involved
In what I know.

IX
When the blackbird flew out of sight,
It marked the edge
Of one of many circles.

X
At the sight of blackbirds
Flying in a green light,
Even the bawds of euphony
Would cry out sharply.

XI
He rode over Connecticut
In a glass coach.
Once, a fear pierced him,
In that he mistook
The shadow of his equipage
For blackbirds.

Treze modos de olhar em um Blackbird
Wallace Stevens

Entre vinte montanhas nevadas,
A única coisa que se deslocam
Era o olho do melro.

II
Eu estava entre três mentes,
Como uma árvore
Em que há três melros.

III
O melro rodopiava no vento de outono.
Foi uma pequena parte da pantomima.

IV
Um homem e uma mulher
São um.
Um homem e uma mulher e um melro
São um.

V
Eu não sei o que escolher,
A beleza das inflexões
Ou a beleza das insinuações,
O melro assobiando
Ou logo após.

VI
O gelo recobria a longa janela
Com vidro bárbaro.
A sombra do melro
Cruzou-lo, para lá e para cá.
o humor
Traçou na sombra
Uma causa indecifrável.

VII
Ó finos homens de Haddam,
Por que imaginais pássaros dourados?
Não vedes como o melro
Rondando os pés
Das mulheres sobre você?

VIII
Sei de nobres
E lúcido, ritmos inescapáveis;
Mas eu sei, também,
Que o melro está envolvido
No que eu sei.

IX
Quando o melro voou para fora da vista,
Ele marcou a borda
De um dos muitos círculos.

X
À vista dos melros
Voando em uma luz verde,
Mesmo os bawds de eufonia
Clamarão fortemente.

XI
Montou mais de Connecticut
Em um ônibus de vidro.
Uma vez, um medo traspassaram,
Em que ele confundiu
A sombra da carruagem
Para melros.

XII
O rio está se movendo.
O melro deve estar voando.

XIII
Era noite toda a tarde.
Estava nevando
E ele estava indo para a neve.
O melro sab
Nos membros de cedro.

XII
The river is moving.
The blackbird must be flying.

XIII
It was evening all afternoon.
It was snowing
And it was going to snow.
The blackbird sat
In the cedar-limbs.
